ABSTRACT

Digital transformation has emerged as a strategic priority for organizations seeking to enhance operational efficiency, foster innovation, and remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven environment. Prior to 2020, the widespread adoption of cloud computing, big data analytics, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, and mobile technologies fundamentally changed organizational processes, customer engagement, and business models. As digital initiatives expanded across industries, the need for structured certification programs and reliable assessment frameworks gained importance to ensure that professionals possessed the competencies required to lead and implement transformation initiatives effectively. This review synthesizes the scholarly literature published before 2020 to examine the evolution of advanced digital transformation certification, the theoretical foundations supporting competency- based learning, and the assessment methods used to evaluate digital capabilities. The review also discusses major certification domains, including digital leadership, data governance, cybersecurity awareness, process automation, and innovation management.
