ABSTRACT

South Africa is a water scarce country, where water has become a very essential natural and economic asset of a nation and the universe equally. It has taken place a very important place as a major voice of concern for policy makers at different strata of society. Currently, the major global concerns are associated with the water deficit countries, where all other major problems linked with water, toning down the country's growth and development. The main purpose of this research theme is to analysis the movement of water through agricultural sector in South Africa, because major water withdrawals take place through agriculture sector. And to assess the virtual water flow through exports and imports of agriculture products by calculating the virtual water content of a product. Virtual water trade has been calculated by multiplying commodity trade volume (tonne/ year) by their associated virtual water content (km3/ tonne).
